Dubai Municipality & the Food Code

The mandatory food safety framework for every food establishment operating in the Emirate of Dubai — and how to meet it with confidence.

Overview

Regulating food safety in Dubai

Dubai Municipality's Food Safety Department is the competent authority for food establishments across the Emirate of Dubai. It licenses premises, carries out inspections and enforces the Dubai Municipality Food Code — a practical, HACCP-based rulebook covering how food must be received, stored, prepared, handled and served.

A central requirement is that every establishment appoints a trained Person-in-Charge (PIC) responsible for day-to-day food safety, supported by trained food handlers holding valid health cards. Inspection outcomes feed into a grading scheme that is visible to customers and business partners.
